How I Work

I offer a safe and supportive space without judgment to talk about whatever you want, helping you explore what’s bothering you. It's easier to make sense of feelings, experiences and challenges in this type of impartial and warm atmosphere. My role is to help you see your situation more clearly, achieve greater self-understanding and acceptance, and identify the range of choices you can make. I believe people have the resources to solve their problems or face their difficulties but sometimes they get stuck and need some assistance. I value working together to find helpful ways to understand and overcome the things that are troubling you.

My approach is rooted in creating a genuine connection and I work in a collaborative way as you know your own needs and are best placed to set the focus and pace. Research has shown that this type of relationship is where meaningful development and change happen.

I use an integrative humanistic approach drawing on Person-Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis theories and techniques. I work to connect with all parts of you understanding the link between our thoughts, feelings and bodies. We can focus on your current issues and where helpful explore your past to understand root causes or patterns. Counselling is not about giving direct advice or opinions, but I aim to offer you my reflections and where relevant gently challenge you. I adjust my approach to meet your needs as we are all unique so I hope to support you to uncover ways forward that will work best for you.

I believe counselling is valuable when people are in emotional difficulty and helps people to become more reflective to support themselves in managing their mental well-being.

Humanistic Counselling

Humanistic counselling is a talking therapy where in the sessions the counsellor’s full attention is on you. Humanistic therapy is about self-exploration. It helps you increase your understanding of yourself, and find greater meaning and purpose in your life. It aims to create a trusting relationship between yourself and your therapist where you feel valued and understood. This helps to foster self-acceptance and personal development. The approach helps you recognise your values, strengths and choices whilst also identifying and overcoming blocks from difficult life experiences that may be preventing you from feeling life satisfaction. It aims to enable you to learn from your experiences rather than judge yourself and find new ways of seeing or doing things that feel right for you.
